Mowing your lawn is, like any other chore, both energy and time consuming, and it’s fairly safe to say that we’re all looking for ways to make it just a little bit easier whenever possible. Whether it’s taking breaks after a couple of minutes or simply asking for help from family or friends, mowing can get pretty tiring and we need all the help we can get, right?

Well, maybe there’s a better, more efficient way to get the grass cut. Rather than trying to find ways to work around your mower, maybe it’s time for an upgrade.

We’re talking about cordless lawn mowers, of course, and not just any cordless mower, but a proper, high-quality one.

To help you choose from the options available on the market, we’ve handpicked five of the best electric cordless lawn mowers you can find for the money, so stick around and browse away.

Why do you need a cordless lawn mower?

Essentially, lawn mowers are either corded or cordless, and each category brings certain benefits to the table and has their own drawbacks. There are various factors that can affect your decision of which one to buy.

First of all, cordless lawn mowers are more flexible and aim to provide convenience in terms of getting to those “hard to reach” spots. There are no limitations in terms of being bound to the power outlet, so moving around and manoeuvering in general becomes easier with this type of lawn mower.

What’s more, you don’t have to worry about mowing over your machine’s power cable since there isn’t one. Compared to the electric corded models, the cordless mowers operate on rechargeable batteries, which is more convenient in almost every aspect.

However, working on batteries has its own flaws as well. Corded mowers have a virtually unlimited supply of power, whereas cordless mowers rely on the battery’s lifespan.

All things considered, there’s a plethora of reasons why you should at least consider getting a cordless lawn mower. If you don’t know where to look for one, feel free to browse through our below picks of the best cordless mowers you can buy in the UK.

Best cordless lawn mowers reviews

Flymo Mighty-Mo

Flymo Mighti-Mo 300 Li Cordless Battery Lawn Mower, 40 V, Cutting Width 30 cm
  • Powered by a 40V li-ion battery (battery and battery charger included)
  • Provide the ability to cut a Lawn up to 250 meter square
  • Five different cutting heights to choose from Cutting width 30 cm Cutting height max 65 mm Cutting height min 25 mm
  • The battery takes 120 minutes for a full recharge, so will be ready to go again next time the lawn needs a cut

Overview

The first model to make our list of the top cordless lawn mowers is Flymo’s Mighty Mo. In essence, this is an inexpensive model that packs a strong Lithium Ion battery and boasts excellent performance for the money.

Flymo is of course a big name in the lawn mower industry, someone just about everyone has heard about. They offer robotic mowers, corded lawn mowers, as well as various handheld tools, parts, and accessories. Though this is one of the cheapest models in our review, it’s coming from a reliable brand.

Manufacturer specs and key features

First of all, there’s the 40V Lithium ion battery. This particular type of battery is incredibly strong and reliable, not to mention that it doesn’t require too much time to charge back up.

Performance wise, the Mighty Mo lawn mower is pretty strong, being able to cut lawns that are up to some 250 square-meter in area. That leads us to the conclusion that it’s great for smaller and medium-sized lawns, although you should have no troubles mowing larger areas if you don’t mind keeping at it for a while longer (since it’s primarily intended for smaller and medium lawns).

The Mighty Mo is quite versatile since it has five different cutting settings, with the maximum height being 65 mm and the minimum height being 25 mm.

Additionally, you can always upgrade your Mighty Mo with the Mighty Trim – a special Flymo trimmer bundle that further enhances the overall performance of this marvellous electric lawn mower.

What we liked about it

Frankly, we liked a little bit of everything about Flymo’s Mighty Mo lawn mower. It’s a versatile, relatively cheap mower model that has a good battery, works well for smaller and medium sized lawns, and one of the best things about it is that it’s quite small and very compact.

It’s remarkably easy to set it up and use it, which is certainly a big plus if you’re new to the whole process (or if you’re used to a corded or petrol mower). If we were to single out just one thing that could be put as the “best” about it, it would definitely be value for the money, as it does more than what you’d bargain for money wise.

What we thought could be improved

Just as we liked a plethora of things about it, we also think that there’s space for improvement.

First of all, the construction isn’t necessarily too durable, and without proper maintenance you’ll start to notice a decline in performance. Moreover, the battery is good, but not exactly perfect. It requires several re-charge processes before it can actually provide a ready, “full” charge.

Pros

  • Battery gets better with use.
  • Compact lawn mower.
  • Ideal for smaller and average-size gardens and lawns.
  • Decently affordable.
  • Easy to set up.

Cons

  • Battery needs to be recharged several times before it can actually provide a “full” charge.
  • Relatively flimsy construction.
  • Mowing larger gardens and lawns can be done on several battery charges, not on a single one.

Ryobi OLM1833H One+

Sale
Ryobi OLM1833B 18V ONE+ Cordless 33cm Lawnmower (Body Only), Anthracite/Green
  • 33cm (13”) cutting path designed for easy manoeuvrability around the garden
  • Cordless Battery convenience - no potentially dangerous mains cable or messy petrol
  • Mow right to the perimeter with easy edge grass Comb feature – no need to finish it off with a grass trimmer
  • 5-Levels of cutting height (25-65mm) and 3-position telescopic handle
  • Part of the Ryobi one+ system – over 100 tools powered by one battery

Overview

Moving on to Ryobi’s OLM1833H One+ lawn mower: this is a great model that, in terms of aesthetics bears a lot of resemblance to our previous pick (the Mighty Mo). This is a versatile lawn mower model that boasts a set of highly convenient features.

Although it does cost a little more than the Mighty Mo, it’s certainly superior in some ways. For example, there are a couple of features to make life easier, such as the ergonomic foldable handles and the grass catcher.

Manufacturer specs and key features

The Ryobi OLM1833H One+ has a five position height adjustment that spans from 25 to 65 mm. Note that in comparison to the Mighty Mo, the minimum cutting height is slightly lower.

The cutting path is fairly wide (33 cm), allowing for simple maneuverability and convenience. On top of that, there’s the Easy Edge comb feature that was specifically designed to mow the perimeter of practically any garden or lawn.

One of the best features of Ryobi’s OLM1833H One+ is the removable ergonomic handle. It was purposefully designed to ensure minimum hand fatigue, plus since it’s removable, storage comes easier.

The grass catcher simplifies the “clean up” process after you’ve finished mowing and it can hold thirty five litres of cut grass in one go.

What we liked about it

The convenience and efficiency of using Ryobi’s OLM1833H One+ are unparalleled for the money. This lawn mower is definitely one of the cheapest models that can provide you with both.

The five position height adjustment is great, and combined with the Easy Edge comb feature you’ll be able to mow your lawn quickly and easily. To top it all, the large capacity grass catcher will further reduce the time needed to get the process done.

In terms of portability and storage, the foldable design of Ryobi’s OLM1833H One+ is amazing.

As you can tell, there are a lot of things we loved about this mower, and affordability is one of them as well, as it belongs to the medium bracket of the “affordable” price point category.

What we thought could be improved

The Ryobi OLM1833H One+ is excellent in many ways, but there’s a huge downfall looming around. Namely, the battery and the charger come separately to the bar model. That means that you won’t be able to use this mower right out of the box unless you buy the bundle version, or already own other Ryobi One+ tools and hence a battery/charger. The battery plus charger bundle nearly doubles the price.

Pros

  • Wide cutting path provides plenty of maneuverability.
  • Quite affordable.
  • Five position height adjustment.
  • Easy Edge comb feature.
  • Ergonomic removable handles.
  • Easy storage.

Cons

  • The battery and charger are sold separately.
  • Bare model can’t be used straight out of the box.
  • Certain features aren’t as easy to use.

Worx WG779E

Overview

The Worx WG779E is basically the best solution for people who actually want to relax while mowing their lawn. It’s supplied with bleeding edge technology that literally takes away the need to think about small details, such as “is the mower too fast or too slow?” and such. With a brilliant design and plenty of battery run-time, this lawn mower is perfectly suited for practically any mowing situation.

Manufacturer specs and key features

The Worx WG779E comes outfitted with a modest amount of features, but each and every one of them are of premium quality.

First, and most important is the Intellicut technology. Essentially, what this technology does is adjust the WG779E’s speed and power as the terrain changes. It significantly boosts the overall reliability of the mower, making it equally efficient in thick, dense, and low grass.

Another great feature is the design of this lawn mower. The Worx WG779E was built a bit smaller so that the process of cutting the grass around the edges becomes a little easier without requiring you to maneuver around too much.

Lastly, this mower comes with its own batteries (dual 20V batteries) that are interchangeable with the other Worx tools. Better yet, you’ll get a dual-port charger that can simultaneously charge both of them.

What we liked about it

The intelligent design, state of the art technology, and the complementary battery charger – these are all reasons why we loved the Worx WG779E. Even though it’s not exactly cheap, it’s far from out of most people’s budget.

With the specially designed base, this lawn mower can reach even closer to the fences and cut more grass, which combined with the Intellicut technology simply means “absolute performance for the money”.

What we thought could be improved

As we’ve already mentioned, the Worx WG779E is built somewhat smaller than average lawn mowers, which means that it could potentially cut medium sized lawns, but maybe not on a single battery charge.

Pros

  • Intellicut technology simplifies the mowing process substantially.
  • Small frame which comes in handy to cut grass around the edges.
  • Simple maintenance and storage.
  • Powered by two 20V batteries.
  • Complementary dual-port charger.

Cons

  • Not really suitable for larger lawns.

Aerotek Cordless Lawnmower

Overview

Next up is Aerotek’s Cordless lawnmower. In comparison to our picks so far, this particular model is slightly more expensive, but it certainly does bring a lot to the table in turn. It’s more powerful, more versatile, and more convenient than your average lawn mower, simply due to the fact that it boasts superior features.

Aerotek is somewhat of an lesser-known brand, but they offer a variety of garden & mowing tools, such as chainsaw machines, leaf blowers, and, of course, premium quality lawn mowers. Let’s take a look at the specs of this particular model.

Manufacturer specs and key features

Aerotek’s cordless lawn mower is outfitted with a remarkably powerful 40V battery that offers a huge lifespan. Because of this, the mower can finish up a 400 square meter lawn without a single hint of a problem.

What’s more, the cutting width is quite broad (40cm), so the mowing process using this particular model requires even less time than average.

Despite its crude outlook, Aerotek’s mower is actually foldable and can be stored rather easily. It also has a 50-litre grass collector box in the back and can accept numerous mulching attachments.

What we liked about it

Most cordless lawnmowers have troubles with battery life, but that’s not the case with this particular model, and that’s perhaps the thing we liked the most about it.

Apart from that, the huge grass collector box can take up to fifty litres of grass. In spite of it being so big it can actually fold up for easy storage.

In terms of performance, it’s one of the finest lawn mowers you can find for the money, as it has a broad cutting width that can work at various cutting heights.

What we thought could be improved

Aerotek’s cordless lawn mower is actually one of the “Amazon’s Choices”, which basically means that the vast majority of people who’ve used it would also recommend it – that further means that it must only have a small number of flaws, if any.

Though we’ve failed to find actual deal breakers and fatal flaws, we’ve made sure to check out what other people had to say in regard to this matter. Several folks have mentioned that the batteries won’t last long enough to cut bigger and medium-size gardens, but that’s a subjective matter – how big is big, after all? We certainly didn’t have any issues with what we’d consider a large lawn.

Most people, however, agree that the instruction manual doesn’t seem to provide enough info, and it is kind of a big deal because this lawn mower isn’t exactly as easy to use as an average model.

Pros

  • Exceptionally powerful battery.
  • Broad cutting width.
  • Huge grass collector box.
  • Foldable design.
  • Reliable performance.

Cons

  • Poorly written instructions in the manual.

Bosch Rotak 32

Bosch Cordless Lawnmower Rotak 32 LI (1 battery, charger, 31-litre grass box, 36 Volt, cutting width/height: 32 cm/3-6 cm, in carton packaging)
  • The Rotak 32 LI cordless lawnmower - a compact lawnmower for urban gardens
  • Cordless freedom due its light weight and no cables or exhaust fumes
  • Enjoy a comfortable and healthy working position while mowing with ErgoFlex handles
  • The grass combs ensure clean results along lawn edges, flowerbeds, walls and paths
  • Items included: Rotak 32 LI, 1x battery pack 36 V/2.0 Ah LI, AL 3620 CV charger, 31 l grass box, cardboard box

Overview

Let’s move on to one of the big guns now. Bosch’s Rotak 32 is one of the most efficient lawn mowers, although it goes without saying that it does cost a bit more than some of the other mowers reviewed here. It packs a mighty set of features and sports a high level of versatility.

Manufacturer specs and key features

First of all, the Rotak 32 comes with a grass comb feature that combined with exceptionally robust steel blades makes sure that you get clean grass cuts every time. It’s exceptionally easy to cut along the walls and edges with it.

You can use the three cutting settings, which means that the cutting path is fully adjustable (30, 45, and 60 mm paths are at your disposal). There’s even a big 31-litre box in the back that, even though it’s smaller when compared to Aerotek’s mower, doesn’t need to be emptied too often.

What we liked about it

If there’s one thing that the vast majority of cordless lawn mowers lack, it’s durability. However, the Rotak 32 is the exception, as it boasts a highly robust frame, as well as a set of reinforced blades. It’s pretty easy to use it despite its versatility too.

The grass box appears to be somewhat smaller than average, but 31 litres is still enough for you to clean your entire lawn (unless we’re talking about mansions with huge lawns or gardens) in one go.

What we thought could be improved

One thing in particular seems to bother people the most about the Rotak 32 – its price. Namely, it’s nearly twice as expensive as Flymo’s Mighty Mo, as it belongs to the upper bracket of the “moderately expensive” price range. However, you do get a great mower for your money.

Pros

  • High-performance lawn mower.
  • Suitable for lawns and gardens of all size.
  • Adjustable height settings.
  • Large grass box in the back.
  • Robust frame.

Cons

  • Quite expensive.
  • Non-foldable design means somewhat harder storage.

Buying guide – how to pick the best cordless lawn mower

There are a couple of factors that differentiate “good” lawn mowers from the “best” models, and we’re here to help you understand what to consider when buying a cordless lawn mower.

Price

Lawn mowers are scattered throughout various price point categories, but it’s important to note that their performance doesn’t necessarily go up as their price does. It’s just that more expensive models are more reliable or come with more or better features (or both).

Battery

The second factor that’s of utmost importance is the battery. Namely, some models come with “reliable” batteries (that actually work as intended) whereas some batteries need to be charged for a couple of times before they reach their stated lifespan. On the other hand, some models don’t come with batteries at all by default (such is the case with the Ryobi OLM1833H One+, for example).

Storage

It would be smart to decide on the issue of storage before purchasing. If you don’t have much space, getting compact models might be the best solution. For example, Bosch’s Rotak 32 is one of the few non-foldable models, so it’s best for people who have bigger storage sheds/garages.

Height settings

Simply mowing your lawn is rather easy, but if you’re looking for finesse, you should get a model which comes with several cutting height settings. The standard is five, although even three should suffice, as long as the difference between the minimal and maximal cutting height isn’t too drastic.

Final words

Picking the right cordless lawn mower appears to be an easy task, but it’s anything but simple. There’s just so many models for you to choose from, and most of them have a couple of hidden flaws that you often get familiar with when it’s a bit too late, i.e. once you’ve bought the mower and got it home.

To help you make the right decision, we’ve handpicked and reviewed the best cordless models the market has to offer.
